Not the greatest season of "24"

Last week I thought that "24" had jumped the shark for this season, with Renee flipping out, the "severe"-looking CTU blonde Dana (Katee Sackhoff) and the extortion attempt, the desperate foreign leader Hassan (Anil Kapoor) cracking down on good and bad aides, etc.
This week ground to a halt in the first hour and I wanted to fast-forward, as Justice Dept. sent in a hack to interrogate Renee Walker (see photo), after Chief of Staff Rob Weiss (Chris Diamantopoulos) suddenly got all panicky and obnoxious. But the second half-hour picked up, and at least the two country bumpkins doing the extorting were eliminated. Now Freddie Prinze Jr.'s character is also tainted, and we're hoping the action picks up (I never thought I'd say that about this show). This is supposed to be a thrill ride with real-life possibilities and fears. Instead we get a Russian shark, Bazhaev (Juergen Prochnowwho), who shoots his own kid, a botched peace accord with a foreign leader who is going bad, and now rogue Mideast operatives trying to set off a dirty bomb. Only the latter holds any promise, but it seems pretty cat-and-mouse, too.
My favorite season is still the one with vast terror plot and the terrorist family that included (pardon the spelling) "Behrooz."
