From Comcast Connecticut:
There were 11 Oscar nominated movies available On Demand at some point before the nominations, and in the window post-nominations, we measured the following films from 1/25-2/14: Inception, Dogtooth, Toy Story 3, The Town, The Kids are All Right, Salt, How to Train Your Dragon, Iron Man 2, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Winter’s Bone, and I Am Love.

Six of these movies saw a boost in views after the nominations were announced (and five of the six films are movies that weren’t considered big blockbuster films – excluding How to Train Your Dragon). Here’s a breakdown:
Title | % Increase | Nomination Category |
The Kids Are All Right | 11% | Best picture, actress, supporting actor, screenplay |
How To Train Your Dragon | 4% | Best animated feature, music (score) |
Dogtooth | 22% | Best foreign film |
Exit Through the Gift Shop | 61% | Best documentary feature |
Winter's Bone | 257% | Best picture, actress, supporting actor, adapted screenplay |
I Am Love | 3% | Best costume design |
It’s important to note that The Social Network was not available On Demand prior to the nominations and started on 2/2. It was the top performing movie On Demand from 2/2 to 2/14 with almost twice as many views as the next highest title.
There are five out of ten Best Picture nominees available On Demand. Below are the rankings of views for the Best Picture nominees:
Post Nomination (1/25 – 2/14)
1. The Social Network
2. The Kids Are All Right
3. Toy Story 3
4. Inception
5. Winter’s Bone
Pre Nomination (Whenever they were in window On Demand)
1. Inception
2. Toy Story 3
3. The Kids Are All Right
4. Winter’s Bone
5. The Social Network was NOT available
Total Views (a combination of the above two lists)
1. The Social Network
2. Inception
3. Toy Story 3
4. The Kids Are All Right
5. Winter’s Bone
Again – just an interesting fact that The Social Network had nearly the same amount of views as all other best picture nominees combined.
