Al Terzi, who has been working in Connecticut TV news for more than four decades, will retire from the anchor desk at the end of the month.
In a tweet Tuesday, Terzi said, "I've decided to retire from the anchor desk at @FoxCT, as of the end of March. Will still host the Sunday AM political show, TheRealStory."
Twitter acknowledgements began popping up from ex-colleagues, including WFSB anchor Denise D'Ascenzo, who congratulated him on his retirement from the anchor desk and referred to Terzi as her "legendary anchor pal."
Terzi, 71, grew up in upstate New York and began in broadcasting as a radio deejay. He worked two years at a Florida station and survived an October 1978 accident when the twin-engine plane he was piloting crashed in Florida on the way from West Palm Beach to Tallahassee for a state Association of Broadcasters meeting.
He then worked 14 years for WTNH and was a top anchor for "Action News." He then signed to anchor the news at rival WFSB, eventually spending 28 years at the station. When he and the station couldn't reach an agreement on a new contract in 2012, he left and eventually signed to anchor late-afternoon news at WTIC (Fox Ct), along with the Sunday morning show.
Terzi attended Yale University
and Central Connecticut State University, and he holds a law degree
from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
A military veteran, Terzi spent more than seven years with Air Force Intelligence
Operations in the Far East during the Vietnam-era.
He and his wife, Carolyn, currently reside in Middletown. His son Tony also works for Fox Ct news.
