The Donald: Rosie’s a loser. A real loser.

http://seriouslyomgwtf.blogsome.com/2006/12/20/round-one-rosie-vs-the-donald/
for a recap of the rosie vs. the donald dustup.
I think they missed the part where Rosie says she's worried someone with a combover will come and steal her Kelly.
Keep in mind that The Donald, seen above in this NBC shot with one of his lawyers (kidding!) has another edition of The Apprentice coming up. He's desperate that it return to strong ratings.

Janet Peckinpaugh leaving WVIT

WVIT has lost two top anchors in Joanne Nesti and Janet Peckinpaugh, both basically retiring from the TV grind, and anchor/reporter Logan Byrnes, who wrapped up his second stint there recently. What a December for 30! Not wonderful for the NBC-owned station, regardless of the talent that is stepping up. But we'll all survive.

On another front, there are rumblings about new staff cuts at WTNH. An off-site owner moving jobs out-of-state and trimming workforce to save money? Probably. It happens. A lot.

Oprah hitting prime-time with series

From Zap2it.com:
Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions and ABC are teaming up for two unscripted series projects. The first, tentatively titled "Oprah Winfrey’s The Big Give," has received an eight-episode order from the network. ABC is also developing another show with the working title "Your Money or Your Life."
"The Big Give" will feature 10 people who are given a set amount of money and other resources, then use them to find ways to make others’ lives better in the "most powerful, sensational, emotional and dramatic ways" they can. The person who makes the biggest impact will be rewarded by having his or her "wildest dream come true."
"Your Money or Your Life" will feature a team of experts helping families in crisis (emotional, financial or otherwise) get back on track.

Sounds good to us.

Sunset for Daybreak

ABC has canceled Taye Diggs' serial drama "Daybreak," which was a stretch after all. But like other canceled shows, you can see the remaining episode or two on the Web, abc.com.

More on Survivor

Apparently Yul has a Yale connection, having attending Yale Law School. In fact, that may be what YUL stands for, Yale University Law.
Someone stop me.

Survivor finale

Of course Yul (Kwon, a 31-year-old management consultant) won "survivor" Sunday night. It's Christmas week. I was expecting a bigger win for the guy, in a wave of votes. More of a Yul-tide. But a "w" is a "w."

Top 10 shows of 2006

TV Guide has picked its top 10 shows of the year. Tell me yours, and I'll publish (either here in the Register or both) mine. If you scan below for previous posts, you can probably figure out mine. Two of them that I won't include but deserve honorable mention are the recent "Tsunami: The Aftermath" on HBO and "Desperate Crossing" on The History Channel. Well done. In the photo here are America Ferrera and Guilford's Becki Newton.

Throw the book at OJ!

From GSN cable channel:
GSN LAUNCHES A NEW INTERNET GAME

LAMPOONING THE ‘ILL-CONSIDERED’ O.J. SIMPSON BOOK DEBACLE

In the New Satirical Game, Users Throw the Alleged
‘If I Did It’ Book at Animated O.J. Simpson

(Santa Monica, CA) - Wednesday, December 13 – GSN is deploying an original online game today that allows critics of the “ill-considered” O.J. project to do what a Los Angeles Criminal Jury refused to do and literally “throw the book at him.”

“Throw the Book at O.J.” features an animated O.J. Simpson at a fictional book store where his book signing was cancelled. “Throw the Book At O.J.” is a part of GSN’s free suite of online games which are available to share and pass along. The game site is located at http://www.gsn.com.

Celtic women? We talking Boston Celtics?

Please, God, bring back the UConn women's games! I can't take another night of "Celtic Women." They're attractive, spunky, talented, graceful, blah, blah, blah and boring in large quantities! CPTV has been running this special every day for weeks, it seems. Last night I ran into them again on the Springfield PBS station. Can it be that great a fund-raiser? Is there no Trans Siberian Orchestra this year? Have Andre Rieu and the young Italian tenor guy taken the month off? Is there no "Nova" available on string theory (or string cheese)?
The only very-pale artist I want to see on CPTV until further notice is Mel Thomas.

OK, an update: Please don't mistake my chippy comments about this show as a cultural comment. I love the Celtic women, too. And, yes, CPTV has overdone airings of other pledge specials that make money, Italian ones included. I just don't think this one needs to be on every other night. That's all. The Andre Rieu special with the three fair sopranos just seems a lot more accessible. My humble opinion.

Apprentice new in January; losing makes you tents

NBC says "The Apprentice" will return Jan. 7 with some new elements. The week's winners will live like kings in a mansion while the week's losers will sleep outside in tents. The project manager will stay in charge until his or her team loses. Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. will return for several episodes, says NBC, but ice princess Carolyn Kepcher is gone (fired or quit in August, depending on who's talking). We liked Carolyn.

Wil Ferrell on Dan Patrick's show Tuesday

Just an example of how photos bounce around in our digital world. This is a couple of hours ago, in Los Angeles. ESPN in Bristol sent it to us. We post it here for no good reason except: It's not Mike and the Mad Dog. (aka The Arrogant One and the Moron, according to my pal Jack).
