Firehouse 12 jazz club in New Haven to present Linda Oh group

Firehouse 12 will present the Linda Oh Group as they perform music from their recently released album "Sun Pictures" (Greenleaf Music) on Friday. Named after the world's oldest operating cinema, Oh's album is a collection of musical snapshots from her travels around the country and around the world.

Linda Oh is "a bassist-composer specializing in luminously lyrical postbop" (Time Out New York). Her "understated yet highly sophisticated style is the phenomenal bassist's singular mark" (All About Jazz, Hrayr Attarian). She is "a composer worth following, too; [she melds] LaFaro-like melodic flair with MIngus-like propulsive force on the bass" (John Shand, AustralianJazz.net).

Oh was born in Malaysia and raised in Western Australia. She has lived in New York City since 2006. In addition to her own groups, she currently performs with Dave Douglas's Quintet and in Sound Prints with Joe Lavono and Dave Douglas. Her first two releases as a leader are called Entry (self-released) and Initial Here (Greenleaf Music).
