Mary Lou Aleskie, executive Director of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven, breezed into her busy offices on Church Street Wednesday morning with a just-awarded trophy that made her gleefully proud.The Bang on a Can musical group gave Aleskie its Bang on a Can Visionary Award in an event Tuesday at City Winery in New York. The festival in 2011 featured the Bang on a Can All-Stars in a courtyard performance.
On its website, the group said, "Mary Lou’s continued support for our work and her dedication to so many other remarkable artists and arts professionals and the field as a whole is truly visionary!"
Aleskie especially appreciated the artful design of the Can award, and showed it off to staffers, who are busily preparing for this year's festival, running June 14-28.
